New Moon in Leo, 2 August: your 11th house, total solar eclipse
The New Moon is exact at 10:05 UTC on Monday 2 August, at 9°54′ Leo. Counted by whole signs from Libra, Leo is your 11th house, the house of friends, hopes and community.
Astrologers treat the New Moon as the month’s quiet beginning; in August that beginning is made in your 11th house, the place the Hellenistic astrologers called the Good Spirit, and it is read as a seed of hope, which the old books placed in this house above all. In your 11th house this August, Leo, fixed fire ruled by the Sun, gives it a warm and wholehearted manner that wants to be seen.
Astronomically the August New Moon is a solar eclipse, because it falls near one of the Moon’s nodes, the two points where its path crosses the Sun’s; for Libra that happens in the 11th house. NASA classes it as total; for Libra its greatest moment, at 10:07 UTC at 9°55′ Leo, is the one the tradition counts, and on the central line totality lasts up to 6 minutes 23 seconds. An eclipse in the eleventh house is read as a turning in friendship and hope: a new circle, a group outgrown or an ambition for the future reshaped. Read the total solar eclipse for Libra in full.
If you want something to do with this August lunation, give your time to a cause you believe in, even for one afternoon.

See the year on your own RoadFull Moon in Aquarius, 17 August: your 5th house, penumbral lunar eclipse
Tuesday 17 August brings the Full Moon at 24°11′ Aquarius, exact at 07:29 UTC, opposite the Sun in Leo, and for Libra it lands in the 5th house, the house of romance, creativity and children.
In the old reckoning the Full Moon was the month’s midpoint, a time to gather in, and in August the gathering happens in your 5th house, Good Fortune: a child’s needs, or your own inner child’s, asking for attention. For Libra this August, Aquarius, fixed air ruled by Saturn in the old books, gives it an independent and principled manner. With the Sun across the chart in your 11th house, the August Full Moon speaks along the axis of the heart and the hope: personal joy and the friends and causes you belong to.
This Full Moon is also a lunar eclipse, a Full Moon close to the nodes, when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, and for Libra it darkens the 5th house. NASA classes it as penumbral, greatest at 07:14 UTC with the Moon at 24°04′ Aquarius in Libra’s 5th house, a faint shading rather than a red Moon. With the Moon eclipsed in the house of Good Fortune, the old counsel is to let joy be simple for a while.
If you want something to do with this August lunation, make something before you judge whether it is useful.
New Moon in Virgo, 31 August: your 12th house
On Tuesday 31 August the Moon and the Sun meet at 8°06′ Virgo, at 17:41 UTC; for Libra that degree lies in the 12th house, the house of rest, solitude and the hidden life.
Astrology reads the New Moon as the time to start small and mean it, and in August the small start belongs to your 12th house, the Bad Spirit: an intention made in private and kept in private, which is often the strongest kind. Set in your 12th house, the August lunation takes its tone from its sign: Virgo makes the mood useful and discerning, ready to sort and to mend.
One way for Libra to meet it in August: take a day of real rest, without making it productive.
Planets changing sign or direction in August
Mercury enters Leo on 2 August, your 11th house. Until 17 August, with Mercury in the house of the Good Spirit, the tradition reads a sociable spell, good for collaborations and for asking allies for advice.
Saturn turns retrograde in Aries, in your 7th house: until 24 December the planet of structure reviews rather than builds. The turn comes on 9 August, at 27°52′ Aries, and in your 7th house its review touches marriage and partnership, close one-to-one bonds, and contracts and agreements.
Mercury enters Virgo on 17 August, your 12th house. Until 3 September, Mercury in your 12th house turns the mind inward: private thinking, research, journaling and conversations held behind closed doors.
On 20 August Venus moves into Virgo, which is your 12th house. Until 13 or 14 September, Venus in your 12th house keeps love private: secret affections, quiet kindness and the pleasure of rest.
On 23 August at 08:14 UTC the Sun crosses into Virgo, which for Libra is the 12th house. Until 23 September, the Sun in your 12th house, the month before your birthday, makes a season for rest, retreat and closing chapters.
Love, work and money for Libra in August
Venus begins August in Leo, your 11th house, and enters Virgo, your 12th, on 20 August, turning affection toward secret feelings, private sacrifices and the hidden life of a relationship. The Full Moon on 17 August falls in your 5th, the house of romance, creativity and children.
Mars stays in Libra all month, your 1st house, putting the month’s effort into your personal initiative and the reputation you carry into any room.
For money, no lunation or fast planet changes in your 2nd house (Scorpio) or your 8th (Taurus) in August, so the tradition would put the month’s weight elsewhere and leave Libra’s budgets to ordinary prudence.
