What sets Eleventh House apart
Where the Twelfth holds the Bad Spirit, the Eleventh holds its opposite number: the Good Spirit, Agathos Daimon. It is a succedent house standing in sextile to the rising sign, so it sees the Ascendant and can support it. Jupiter has its joy here, and the house is placed directly opposite the Fifth, the Good Fortune, so the two together pair private pleasure with public friendship.
- Traditional name: Good Spirit (Greek Agathos Daimon)
- Planetary joy: Jupiter, the planet that gladdens here
- Type: succedent, following the angular Tenth
- Sign relation to rising sign: sextile, 60 degrees, by Whole Sign Houses
- Opposite house: the Fifth, Good Fortune, joy of Venus
- Natural-zodiac match: Aquarius, ruled by Saturn
Often mistaken for something else: The Seventh House holds one-to-one partners, open enemies and contracts. The Eleventh holds friends and groups, people who are chosen and who gather around a shared hope.
A one-minute story
The Twelve Places
How the turning sky was cut into twelve places, and what each was read for.

The Good Spirit
Firmicus Maternus calls the eleventh house Bonus daemon, the Good Spirit, from the Greek agathos daimon, and says it is Jupiter's place. Dorotheus calls it what follows the midheaven, and the sign of fortune, and ranks it third among the places. Al-Qabisi lists hope, trust, fortune, praise, friends, underofficials, recompense, clothes, scents and joy, and gives it the time after the middle of life. He colors it orange.
Firmicus puts the Good Spirit above the Good Fortune, the fifth, in his order of precedence, and Dorotheus names the fifth as its opposite.
Jupiter rejoices here
Jupiter has his joy in the eleventh house, in the list al-Qabisi and the Abbreviation preserve. Dykes explains that day planets rejoice above the horizon. The eleventh makes a sextile to the Ascendant, and Firmicus notes that sextile in connection with Jupiter's place.
The house is succedent, and al-Qabisi says the eleventh brings fortune through friends.
What the three lords of the eleventh say
Al-Andarzaghar reads the three triplicity lords as trust, friends and their usefulness. Dorotheus joins the eleventh with the fifth as the places of fortune, and ranks them the third and fourth best.
