What sets Birth Chart apart

A birth chart needs three inputs, and each fixes something different: the date places the planets, the time of day sets the Ascendant and the houses, and the place gives the local horizon. The same date and place with a different hour gives a different rising sign. The Ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes, and the Moon about half a degree an hour, so an uncertain birth time loosens the angles first and the Moon next.

Date fixes: the Sun's degree to within about one degree, and the signs of the slower planets
Time fixes: the Ascendant, Midheaven and house cusps; the Ascendant advances about 1 degree per 4 minutes
Place fixes: the horizon, so the same hour gives a different Ascendant in each latitude
Time zone: local time is converted to Universal Time with the zone and any daylight saving then in force
Moon: moves about 13 degrees a day, so a few hours can change her degree, and sometimes her sign

Often mistaken for something else: A birth chart is the plain-language word for a natal chart. A Sun-sign horoscope uses only the date, and so uses one of its three inputs.
