What sets Natal Chart apart
A natal chart fixes one instant, the moment of birth, and reads the whole sky as it stood then: the Sun, the Moon, the planets, the nodes, twelve houses and the four angles. The older word is nativity, from Latin nativitas, and the Greek genesis. Ptolemy takes the nativity as his subject in Books III and IV of the Tetrabiblos, and Dorotheus opens his Carmen with it. It is cast once and is not recalculated.

- Angles: Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven (MC) and Imum Coeli (IC)
- Houses: twelve, by whole-sign or by a quadrant system such as Placidus
- Oldest known: a Babylonian horoscope for 410 BCE, the earliest dated one that survives
- Older names: nativity in Latin, genesis in Greek, and genethlialogy for the art
Often mistaken for something else: The natal chart is the birth sky itself. A solar return, a transit chart and a progressed chart are different charts, cast for other moments and laid over it.
