What sets Chart Ruler apart
The chart ruler is chosen by one rule: the planet that rules the Ascendant's sign, nothing else. Only Cancer and Leo rising give a luminary, since the Moon and Sun each rule a single sign; every other rising sign hands the chart to one of the five planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter or Saturn, and Taurus and Libra rising, Gemini and Virgo rising, and so on share their ruler. Modern practice may also name Uranus, Neptune or Pluto for Aquarius, Pisces or Scorpio rising, where the traditional rule keeps Saturn, Jupiter or Mars.
