New Moon in Capricorn, 7 January: your 1st house
The New Moon is exact at 20:25 UTC on Thursday 7 January, at 17°18′ Capricorn, in Capricorn itself: counted by whole signs, your own sign is the 1st house, the house of the self and the body.
A New Moon is read as an opening rather than an event, so the January lunation is less a happening than an invitation in your 1st house, the Hour-marker: a beginning that is about you rather than about anyone else, the kind of resolve that needs no permission. Set in your 1st house, the January lunation takes its tone from its sign: Capricorn makes the mood disciplined and patient, more interested in results than in feelings.
If you want something to do with this January lunation, notice where you shrink in a room and practice standing as if you were allowed to be there.
Beyond the Sun sign
Your Sun sign is only part of 2027
A Capricorn forecast reads the year by your Sun sign alone. The Road of Ages reads the turning points of your whole life from your own birth date, and shows where you stand on it now.
See the year on your own RoadFull Moon in Leo, 22 January: your 8th house
On Friday 22 January the Moon comes full at 2°14′ Leo, at 12:17 UTC, facing the Sun in Aquarius; for Capricorn it fills the 8th house, the house of shared money, intimacy and deep change, from across the 2nd.
Astrologers treat the Full Moon as the month’s high tide; in January the tide rises in your 8th house, the place the tradition calls the Idle Place, and it shows a grief or a fear that has been waiting for its turn to be felt. For Capricorn this January, Leo makes the mood generous and proud, ready to lead and to play. Read as an axis, from your 8th house to your 2nd, this January Full Moon runs along the axis of what is yours and what is shared: earnings and debts, possessions and trust.
One way for Capricorn to meet it in January: review an insurance policy, a will or a tax matter you have left alone.
Planets changing sign or direction in January
Venus enters Sagittarius on 7 January, your 12th house. Until 3 February, with Venus in the house of hidden things, the tradition reads a spell for tenderness out of public view and for healing old hurts.
Mars stations retrograde in Virgo, your 9th house, beginning a backward loop of 81 days that lasts until 1 April. The turn comes on 10 January, at 10°25′ Virgo, and Mars retrograde in your 9th house is read as convictions reconsidered and travel plans paused.
On 13 January Mercury moves into Aquarius, which is your 2nd house. Until 1 February, with Mercury in your house of money, the tradition reads a practical spell for paperwork about earnings and spending.
On 20 January at 07:30 UTC the Sun crosses into Aquarius, which for Capricorn is the 2nd house. Until 18 February, the Sun in your 2nd house puts money, possessions and self-worth in the light, a month for the practical side of a life.

For money, Mercury arrives in your 2nd on 13 January, the Sun arrives in your 2nd on 20 January and the Full Moon on 22 January falls in your 8th: the house of what you earn and own.
