August 23 is a cusp birthday, usually Virgo; in some years the Sun is still in Leo for part of this date, so check your birth year and time: in 70 of the 91 years from 1940 to 2030 the Sun crossed from Leo into Virgo during August 23 counted in UTC, most recently in 2030, and at noon UTC it stood in Virgo in 63 of the years and in Leo in 28. For a birth on August 23 the year, the time and the place settle the sign: convert the time of birth to UTC and compare it with the minute the Sun changed sign that year, or let the zodiac sign calculator do it from your date, time and city.
At noon UTC on August 23 the Sun is in the first decan of Virgo in 63 of those years and in the third decan of Leo in 28, so the decan, like the sign at a cusp, turns on the year. The first decan of Virgo is a face that belongs to the Sun in the Chaldean order and is read through Virgo, ruled by Mercury, by triplicity, and in most years the decan runs from August 23 to September 2, and August 23 is its first day.
In most years August 23 is the 1st day of the Sun’s season in Virgo, which runs from August 23 to September 22 counted at noon UTC, with 30 days of it still to come. August 23 is the 235th day of a common year and the 236th of a leap year, with 130 days of the year still to come after it.

August 23 birthday personality
The Sun rules the opening decan of Virgo in the Chaldean order while Mercury, the sign’s own ruler, keeps it by triplicity, so the old reading is service with a bright, visible craft, work that shows its care. Its shadow is a standard no one could meet, the one holding it included.
The 23rd adds 2 and 3 into 5, so numerology reads it as a lively, curious birthday, the partner and the talker becoming the traveller. It is linked with versatility and a quick wit. In an earth sign the 5 is read as restlessness with roots, change welcomed one careful step at a time.
Where Leo gives way to Virgo the performer meets the craftsman, warmth meeting care for detail. Some readers take a birthday this close to the change to carry something of both signs, a symbolic reading the calculation cannot measure; which sign the Sun was in at a birth is a matter of fact, settled by the year, the time and the place.
A question to carry from August 23: which routine is your care for doing things well ready to change, and which one is worth keeping?
The Sun in Virgo and the number 5 are only part of the story: your Moon, your rising sign and the rest of your chart have as much to say, and the tradition offers all this as a mirror, never a verdict.
Birthday number 5
Born on the 23rd, 2 + 3 = 5, so your birthday number is 5: a 5 vibration supports freedom, change, movement, curiosity, and experimentation, with adaptability and discovery as its gift and restlessness, inconsistency, or escapism as its strain.
Your 2027 numbers
For a birthday on August 23 the house method reduces the birth month and the day on their own and adds the Universal Year of 2027, 11 (2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11, a master number kept whole), as it stands: August, the 8th month, gives 8, the 23rd reduces to 5, and 8 + 5 + 11 = 24, which reduces to 6, so 2027 is your Personal Year 6.
A Personal Year 6 is read as a year of home, family and responsibility, of love that shows itself in care. Under the Universal Year 11 the reading turns that care toward healing and toward a community wider than the household.
Personal Months of 2027, a Personal Year 6: Jan 7 Feb 8 Mar 9 Apr 1 May 11 Jun 3 Jul 4 Aug 5 Sep 6 Oct 7 Nov 8 Dec 9
In 2027 August 23 falls on a Monday, the day the old reckoning gives to the Moon, and is a Personal Day 1 (5 + 23 = 28, then 1) in a Personal Month 5 (6 + 8 = 14, then 5), while May is a master month 11; the Personal Year itself turns on 1 January, not on the birthday.
