Mind and Heart
Jesus foretold men's hearts failing them for fear. He also said, let not your heart be troubled. Watching the world is wise; being swallowed by it is not. Here is how to stay alert and at peace.
Facts checked October 2026. No dates set: "of that day and hour knoweth no man" (Matthew 24:36).
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27, KJV
Why this matters
Jesus foretold "men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth" (Luke 21:26). A constant stream of alarming news can do exactly that. Watching the world is wise; being swallowed by it is not.
Peace is not pretending nothing is wrong. It is knowing who holds the end of the story, and doing the next right thing today. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee" (Isaiah 26:3).

Wisdom for the way
Fear is not discernment
Discernment sees clearly and acts wisely. Fear sees everything and does nothing. If a source leaves you frightened and frozen, it is not helping you watch.
Think on these things
"Whatsoever things are true… honest… just… pure… lovely… think on these things" (Philippians 4:8). What you feed your mind grows.
The end of the story
Every tear wiped away, no more death, sorrow or pain (Revelation 21:4). Believers are the one people who know how it ends.

Common questions
Is it wrong to feel afraid about the end times?
No. Fear is a human response, and Scripture meets it with comfort rather than shame: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee" (Isaiah 41:10). Bring the fear to God, talk about it with someone you trust, and let small steps of preparation turn worry into action.
How do I talk to my children about this?
Simply and calmly, at their level. Tell them that God is in control, that your family has a plan, and that Jesus is coming back to make everything right. Children take their cue from your peace more than your words.
What if the anxiety will not go away?
Then it is time to get help, which is wisdom, not weakness. Speak to a doctor, a counselor or your pastor. If you are ever in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, call or text 988 in the United States, or your local emergency number elsewhere.
