What sets Opposition apart
The opposition is the only aspect that is a straight line: the two planets stand at the two ends of one diameter, 180 degrees apart, in signs six apart that share a modality and a polarity. The Moon shows it most plainly, because the Full Moon is simply the Moon opposite the Sun. Seen from where one stands, one of the pair is rising as the other sets.

The opposition in the traditional sources
The opposition joins signs six apart, half the circle. Firmicus calls it the diameter and says the seventh house, the descendant, stands in opposition to the Ascendant. Abu Ma'shar rates it malevolence, and Firmicus and Bonatti, as Dykes reports, derive it from Saturn's domicile in the Thema Mundi.
- Distance: 180 degrees, half the circle. Ptolemy counts it as six signs (the diameter); Abu Ma'shar counts it by whole signs, the seventh sign.
