What sets Lunar Phase apart
A phase is the angle of the Moon from the Sun along the zodiac, measured forward: 0 degrees at the New Moon, 90 at the first quarter, 180 at the Full Moon, 270 at the last quarter. The angle grows about 12.2 degrees a day, and the full round takes the synodic month of 29.53 days, longer than the Moon's own 27.32-day circuit of the zodiac. The phase has nothing to do with which sign she occupies.

- Synodic month: 29.53 days from one New Moon to the next
- Sidereal month: 27.32 days to return to the same star, about two days shorter
- Four quarters: 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees: New, first quarter, Full, last quarter
- Ptolemy, Tetrabiblos I.8: assigns moist, hot, dry and cold to the four quarters of the cycle
- Eightfold scheme: Dane Rudhyar, in The Lunation Cycle (1967), divides the circle into eight 45-degree phases
