The Sun is often read as who you are becoming and the rising sign as how you meet a stranger. The Moon is neither. It is what has to be true for you to rest. Read as a personality label it produces flattery; read as a requirement it produces something you can act on, because a requirement can actually be supplied.

The Moon covers roughly half a sign in twelve hours, so a birth near a boundary genuinely depends on the hour. If you have no birth time, a careful reading gives you both possibilities rather than choosing the more appealing one. Two honest options are worth more than one confident guess.
Reading it by element
