What sets Handle Planet apart
In Marc Edmund Jones's Bucket the handle is the one planet set apart from a group of nine that fill about half the wheel. Jones set out his seven chart shapes in 1941, in the Guide to Horoscope Interpretation. The handle is simply a gap-separated planet, found by the count and not by its aspects. It stands in the half that the bowl leaves empty.
- Count: one planet, with the other nine bodies in the bowl
- Source: Marc Edmund Jones, who named the shapes in the early 1940s
- Position: alone in the otherwise empty half of the wheel
- Chart shape: found only in a Bucket, never in a Bowl or Splash
- Bodies counted: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto
Often mistaken for something else: The handle planet is a position within a shape. The Apex planet belongs to an aspect figure such as a T-Square and is found by angles, not by gaps.
