What sets South Node apart
The South Node is the North Node's fixed partner: exactly 180 degrees away, always in the opposite sign at the same degree, so it needs no calculation of its own and cannot be moved apart from it. Where the North Node is the Moon's northward crossing, the South Node is the southward crossing. Many Western writers, Lilly among them, gave the Head the nature of Jupiter and Venus and the Tail that of Saturn and Mars, which is where the older negative reading of the South Node comes from.
