What sets Element apart
The four elements descend from Greek natural philosophy: Empedocles named the four roots and Aristotle gave each a pair of qualities, hot or cold crossed with dry or moist. Astrology laid them on the zodiac in a repeating order, fire, earth, air, water, starting from Aries. Signs of one element stand 120 degrees apart, which is why the group is called a triplicity, or trigon, and why the trine is the aspect between them.
