What sets Chakra apart
The Sanskrit cakra, wheel, names centres along the subtle body in Hindu and Buddhist tantric texts, and the number and places are not agreed: some schemes have four, five, six or seven. The seven-centre rainbow model most readers know is largely a twentieth-century Western form, shaped by John Woodroffe's The Serpent Power (1919), which translated a sixteenth-century text on six centres, and by Charles Leadbeater's The Chakras (1927).
