How the old textbooks rate each Moon day for Aries
The old books count aspects by whole signs, so the sign the Moon is in decides her relation to Aries with no degree to measure. Ptolemy gives four aspects and calls signs one or five apart inconjunct: they share none of his four aspects. Abu Ma’shar rates each aspect, and calls two bodies in one sign assembled, the closest connection the textbooks recognize. These are the twelve possible Moon days for Aries:

A retrograde ruler adds one more note. Ptolemy lists retrograde motion among the signs of a weak planet, and Dorotheus says it brings difficulty.
