What sets Seraphim apart
Named in the Bible only in Isaiah 6, where they stand above the throne, each with six wings: two cover the face, two cover the feet, two are for flying. The Hebrew saraph means 'to burn' and is also the word for the fiery serpents of Numbers 21 and Isaiah 14:29. They cry 'Holy, holy, holy' and one touches Isaiah's lips with a live coal from the altar.

Often mistaken for something else: The cherubim of Ezekiel have four wings and four faces; the seraphim of Isaiah have six wings and no recorded faces.
The Seraphim as Leo and the eagle
J. H. Hill reads the Seraphim as the composite of Leo and the eagle, Aquila, which he puts in the place of Scorpio, a winged lion with an eagle's head. He ties it to the half of the year in which the days shorten, from the summer solstice to the winter solstice, and sets it opposite the Cherubim, which are Taurus with Aquarius and the half in which they lengthen.
The year in two halves
Hill's scheme splits the year at the solstices. The Cherubim govern the lengthening days, the Seraphim the shortening ones, and the sun passes from one to the other at the solstice. Those are his claims, drawn from his general argument that scripture is a calendar of the sun.
