2027 for the Goat

In the year of the Fire Goat, which begins on 6 February 2027, the Goat meets its own animal year. In the generative cycle Fire produces Earth, so practitioners read a Fire year as one that feeds the Goat’s Earth: support arriving, sometimes faster than it can be used.

The Goat in a Goat year

This is the Goat’s own year, its branch 未 returning, and many practitioners treat a person’s own animal year with particular care, reading it as a year to look after health and money, to keep close to the people who love you, and to begin creative work gently. It is read less as unlucky than as a year that asks the Goat to look after itself.

Love and work for the Goat in 2027

In love the Goat’s own year is read as a time to be cared for as well as to care: let the people closest to you show their affection, and ask plainly for what you need.

At work practitioners counsel the Goat to pace itself in its own year, favoring creative and steady work over risk, and keeping its health and its budget in view.

The five kinds of Goat in a Fire year

Each Goat year also carries an element of its own, from the year’s heavenly stem, so there are five kinds of Goat, and practitioners read each one against 2027’s Fire by its birth element.

A Metal Goat, born in 1931 or 1991, meets the element that melts Metal, which practitioners read as a refining year: pressure that shapes, best met with patience.

A Water Goat, born in 1943 or 2003, carries the element that dampens Fire, and practitioners read the year as one it can steady for others, at some cost to its own warmth.

A Wood Goat, born in 1955 or 2015, carries the element that feeds Fire, and practitioners read the Fire year as one that draws on it: a good season for kindling other people’s plans, and a reason to guard its own reserves.

A Fire Goat, born in 1967, shares the year’s own element, which practitioners read as strong momentum: easy to begin things, harder to rest, with a temper to watch.

An Earth Goat, born in 1979, is fed by the year, since Fire produces Earth, and practitioners read support and steadiness for it, with the caution not to take on too much simply because it comes easily.

The Goat in the tradition

Folk tradition gives the Goat, also called the Sheep or Ram, gentleness, artistry and a kind, peaceable heart, the animal of comfort and creativity. Its branch is 未.

In the traditional tables the Goat is yin, belongs to the 4th trine and has Earth as its fixed element. Its best matches in the grid are the Rabbit and Pig (its trine) and the Horse (its harmony); its offending opposite is the Ox, and its harming pair the Rat.

Earth meets Fire

Fire is the element of 2027’s stem 丁, yin fire, and Earth is the Goat’s own, so for the Goat the year is read as Earth meeting Fire.

The cycles are the ones Wikipedia’s article on the five elements gives: Wood feeds Fire, Fire produces Earth, Earth bears Metal, Metal collects Water and Water nourishes Wood, while Water dampens Fire and Fire melts Metal.

Common questions

Is 2027 a good year for the Goat?

The tradition promises the Goat neither a good year nor a bad one. By the compatibility grid the Goat meets its own animal year, and by the elements the Goat’s Earth meets the year’s Fire; practitioners read the Goat’s year through both, as a season to reflect on rather than a verdict.

What are the Goat years?

In the table from 1924 to 2043: 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027 and 2039. Each Goat year begins at that year’s Chinese New Year, not on 1 January.

When does the Goat’s next year come?

On 24 January 2039, an Earth Goat year.
