A life path number reduces your whole birth date to a single figure. It describes a disposition and the excess that comes with it, and it is the number most often calculated wrongly.

Reduce your birth month, your birth day and your birth year separately, keeping 11, 22 and 33 where they appear, then add the three results and reduce once more. The Almanac uses this method throughout, so its life path agrees with itself everywhere. Why two methods disagree
Reducing the date in parts and reducing it all at once usually agree, but not always: the two can differ when a component would have produced a master number that the all-at-once method dissolves. Neither is a secret truth. What matters is that a site uses one method consistently, because a person told they are a 7 on one page and a 4 on another has learned nothing except that nobody was paying attention.
What the nine describe
A 1 is initiative and self-direction, with impatience as its excess. A 2 is attunement and cooperation, with self-erasure. A 3 is expression, with scatter. A 4 is structure and reliability, with rigidity. A 5 is adaptability and appetite, with restlessness. A 6 is care and responsibility, with control disguised as help. A 7 is depth and study, with withdrawal. An 8 is mastery and executive force, with domination. A 9 is completion and breadth, with martyrdom.
The three masters
An 11 runs on the 2 and is read as intuition arriving before proof. A 22 runs on the 4 and is read as building at scale. A 33 runs on the 6 and is read as care given without accounting. They are held rather than reduced because the tradition treats them as the same grain under more pressure, which cuts both ways: more capacity and more cost.
What it is not
It is not a prediction, a compatibility test, or a reason to take or refuse a job. It describes the way effort tends to come naturally to you and where that same tendency overshoots. Used well it settles arguments you have been having with yourself. Used badly it becomes an excuse, which is the one thing a number should never be allowed to be.
