What sets Waxing Crescent apart
This is the Moon between the New Moon and the first quarter, from 0 to 90 degrees ahead of the Sun and under half lit. She is seen low in the west after sunset, setting about an hour after the Sun for every 15 degrees of her distance from it. The tips of the crescent point away from the Sun. Ptolemy calls this stretch of the cycle moist.

Often mistaken for something else: Waxing Crescent grows toward the evening and sets after the Sun. The Waning Crescent is seen before dawn and rises ahead of the Sun.
