Collection of light in the traditional sources
Collection is the third of Bonatti's methods of perfection. Both significators apply to a third planet that is heavier than either, and that planet collects their light and brings the matter to an end. Abu Ma'shar lists collection beside transfer among the twenty-five configurations.

Collection against transfer
In transfer, a third planet aspects or joins one significator and then the other. In collection, both significators apply to the same third planet, which is heavier than either.
Bonatti's other methods are joining, location and benefic reception, and committing disposition supports both transfer and collection. See Translation of Light for the full list.
The story behind Collection of Light
Traditional horary texts distinguish collection from translation: collection gathers two applications into a more weighty planet rather than having a lighter planet carry one contact to another.
The spiritual meaning of Collection of Light
Spiritually, Collection of Light asks whether resolution needs a larger container than either side can provide alone.
Collection of Light in the Bible
Collection language should not be used to manipulate third parties or claim spiritual inevitability.
Why Collection of Light matters
Collection of Light matters because a matter may be perfected through a stronger third party, institution, judge, manager, elder, or circumstance when the two main significators cannot complete it themselves.
Collection of Light in practice: an example
Two people may not aspect each other, but if both apply to Jupiter, Jupiter may collect the light and describe a mediator or institution.
Where readings of Collection of Light go wrong
A common error is to ignore reception, dignity, and the collecting planet's condition. A weak or hostile collector may not help.
