What an astrological lot is
Astrological lots, sometimes called Arabic Parts, are points obtained by measuring an arc between two factors and projecting that arc from the Ascendant. They do not mark physical bodies in the sky. Hellenistic authors used many lots to organize topics such as fortune, spirit, necessity, courage, and eros. The Lot of Eros belongs to that larger system and should not be isolated from it. Because translation, manuscript corruption, and different authors’ techniques matter, a calculator that supplies a degree without naming its formula gives an appearance of certainty the historical record does not support.

Why formulas for Eros differ
Some modern Hellenistic practitioners use a formula involving Venus and the Lot of Spirit, with the direction reversed between day and night charts; other presentations derive Eros through different planet pairs or follow a particular passage in Valens or Paulus. Even “from A to B” can be implemented backward if the convention is not defined. The safest workflow is to quote the chosen source, convert all positions to 0–360-degree longitude, calculate the directed arc, add it to the Ascendant, and reduce the result modulo 360.
