Numerology reduces numbers to a single digit, but two different double digits can reduce to the same root, and many schools read the pair together. A 7 reached through 16 (1 + 6) is read differently from a 7 reached through 25 (2 + 5): the same destination through a different road. Writing the pair as 16/7 or 25/7 keeps the road visible.

Two families of double digits are conventionally not treated as ordinary.
- Master numbers: 11, 22, and 33 are usually left unreduced, read as intensified forms of 2, 4, and 6, and often written 11/2, 22/4, and 33/6.
- Karmic debt forms: 13, 14, 16, and 19 are singled out in many schools as lessons attached to their roots (4, 5, 7, and 1), traditionally concerning discipline, restraint, pride, and self-reliance.
