About this tool and its method
How the Prayer Companion works
Choose what is on your heart, and add a name or a few words of your own if you like. The prayer then goes one step at a time, in the old pattern many Christians call ACTS: Adoration, praising God for who he is; Confession, being honest about where we fall short; Thanksgiving, remembering what he has given; and Supplication, bringing our requests for ourselves and others. Each step says what it means, so no one needs to know how to pray before they begin.
Scripture with every prayer
Every prayer comes with verses from the Bible, quoted from the King James Version, and a thought to carry into the day. A verse is given for each day as well, the same for everyone, and it opens a prayer on its own theme.
What you can pray about
- For your own heart
- Gratitude, anxiety and peace, guidance and decisions, healing, forgiveness, strength in hard times, and grief and loss.
- For others
- Family and those you love, your work and provision, and any one person you name.
- Through the day
- Morning prayer and evening prayer, suggested at their own hour.
- With the whole Church
- The Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23, the Apostles’ Creed, the Prayer of St Francis, the Serenity Prayer, the Jesus Prayer, the Blessing of Aaron and the Glory Be.
What this tool does
Choose what is on your heart, from gratitude and worry to healing, grief, guidance or someone you love, and pray step by step: be still, praise God, confess, give thanks and ask, with a verse of Scripture and a minute of quiet. Or pray one of the prayers the Church has shared for centuries. Keep a prayer in your journal and mark it answered. Membership opens the Prayer Companion, as it opens every instrument.
Prayer is talking with God, and listening. You do not need the right words: you only need to begin.

Common questions
How do I pray if I have never prayed before?
Simply begin. Choose what is on your heart and the companion walks you through each step, explaining what it means and offering words you can pray aloud, in your heart, or in your own words. God looks at the heart, not the wording.
What is the ACTS prayer pattern?
ACTS stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication: praising God, being honest about our failings, thanking him, and bringing our requests. It is a simple, old way to keep prayer balanced.
Which Bible translation is used?
Scripture is quoted from the King James Version, a public domain translation loved for its language for four hundred years.
Is my prayer journal private?
Yes. What you write is never sent anywhere, and the prayers you keep are stored on your own device only.
